Chickasaw Nation Opens Largest Oklahoma Casino
Riverwind Casino, the state's largest and boasting of a Las Vegas style-experience, has opened its doors in central Oklahoma.
The casino has a 219,000 square-foot building and is situated on a 15.5-acre land just south of Norman. Riverwind Casino is almost double the size of Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace and The Mirage casinos.
The casino opened its door to a warm 2,000 crowd on July 17, even without the help of advertisement. A grand opening ceremony will be held on Aug. 10.
"We have the latest and newest games, and our goal is to create a quality experience unlike anything our customers have ever seen in Oklahoma," said Chickasaw Enterprises CEO Brian Campbell. "We're trying to achieve a Las Vegas-style experience."
The casino is the 18th for the Chickasaw nation, and it is expected to have a significant economic impact on smaller communities as it brings 1,800 full and part time employment to residents.
The casino likewise boasts of 2,220 electronic games and 72 black jack and poker tables. Additionally, it also has a horse racing off-track betting room and a 1,500-seat Showplace Theatre.
Those that attended the soft opening attests to the casino's potential to be at par with the best that Vegas has to offer.
Oklahoma City resident Brandi Murphy, a regular Vegas casino patron said: "This is great to have so close to the city... The variety of slot machines is great. I don't really play the table games. I want to bring my parents to show them (the casino.)"
Another casino customer, Desiree Townsend of Dallas, decided to stop while she was passing through the area.
"It's beautiful - really nice," Townsend said. "It's just like Vegas."
